Genesis Basics: Veining
Now
we're going to add some subtle veining to our baby. Start by mixing
equal parts of pthalo blue and pthalo green with enough thinner to create a teal color
with an inky consistency.

Dip your size 0 liner brush into the teal paint and remove excess on a paper towel.
Draw light squiggly veins using a light touch. Immediately blend the
ends of the veins with a cosmetic sponge lightly dampened with thinner
to make them look as though they disappear into the skin. Your
coloring will lighten only slightly after it's baked, so what you see
now will be close to what you'll get after the painting is done.

(Unblended paint)

I usually add veins in the following areas:
Arms: Underside of wrist, back of hand, palm of hand, inner elbow
Legs: Inner and outer ankle, bottom of foot, top of foot, behind the knee
Head: Behind the ears, scalp (a few), in front of ears toward the
face, forehead, on either side underneath chin, inner eye, perhaps
lightly on eyelids
Here are a few in-progress pictures:

Time to bake again! You can check to make sure the paint has set
properly by wiping the vinyl with a damp cotton swab or Q-tip after it cools for 30
seconds or so. If paint comes off on the swab, put the parts back
in the oven and bake at 2 minute intervals until it's properly set.

On to the purple wash!
