Preparing the Kit
For your
first doll, I recommend that you start with an inexpensive doll kit or
a
Berenguer La Baby doll from your local discount store. I'll be
demonstrating beginner techniques with one of Berenguer's new doll
kits, a sleeping newborn mold. At $29.95 (and with no factory paint to
remove, hair lines to sand off, or disassembly to perform) these kits
are a great value and really cute to boot!

The first step for this kit
will be to enlarge the holes in the limbs
with a craft knife before washing. This will allow water to drain out
better and speed drying time. Watch your fingers!

Now into the warm soapy bath
...

Rinse with clean water and
towel dry.
I will now drill the nose
holes open to make this baby a
"breather." Our newborn's upper lip is very close to her
nose, so be
careful not to nick it with the drill. First I drilled a
pilot
hole with a very small bit and then enlarged the hole slightly with a
bit exactly the size of the nose opening. After the hole was
made, I pushed the drill bit in and out by hand to remove any residual
pieces of vinyl and then swabbed out the nostrils with a wet Q-tip.

I then left my kit to dry
overnight.
